Indications for use in Ossiculoplasty

•  Repair of an Ossicular Discontinuity
•  Bridging a Incudostapedial Joint separation
•  Securing into place a TORP®, PORP®1 or Stapes Prosthesis.
•  Securing graft or prosthesis during Posterior canal wall reconstruction
•  Securing of cochlear implant electrode array

 

 

Bonds to:

• Denuded, dry bone

• Allograft

• Metal

 

Ionomeric Cement supplied as:
•  2 Gram Capsule
• Sterile packaged
• Shelf life: five (5) years

Mixer Set Up

Mixer set up from the box

Remove the  two (2) travel-screws in the base of mixer, with Allen Wrench (supplied).

 

To operate the mixer

1.Press the start button “S”
2.The Mixer will run 10 seconds and shut off automatically.
3.Remove the capsule from the mixer
4.Remove the white clip from the capsule and place capsule into applicator gun

To Prepare for use

• Mixing is done by circulator nurse.
Do not sterilize the mixer or applicator.
Do not mix until surgeon calls for cement.

• Surgeon will have 3- 4 minutes after mixing to set up.

  1. Inject the entire amount onto the sterile field
    • A sterile microscope glass slide, cutting block, bottom of metal pan or medicine glass works well.
  2. Cement is ready to be placed onto OC with Rosen Type or Barbara Needle.

The Smaller the amount, the better.

Application

•Cover facial nerve, if present, with neuro-patty or silicone sheeting.
•Cement aliquot must be placed into a dry field & will not bond to soft tissue

•Allow to dry 10-13 minutes  before closing

Placement into the Middle Ear

•Cement must be placed in a dry field
–After being activated, the surgeon has approximately 3 – 4 minutes working time until the cement begins to harden
–Place directly onto denuded-dry bone
•Avoid contact with blood or soft tissue until completely set
–Once placed, the operation site must be kept dry for 10 minutes to allow the cement to set. Setting time can vary depending on temperature

Contradictions & Warnings

• Serenocem must not be placed in contact with peripheral nerves, cranial nerves, neural tissue, Dura. C.S.F. or other parts of the central nervous system prior to setting.
• Not indicated for acoustic neuroma or skull based surgery.
• Cannot be used in weight bearing applications.
• Cannot be used in soft tissue.
